Non-Fiction Update

I’ve neglected my blog—again. Not that there’s many people here, but still. I’m talking to someone right? Or, at someone? Anyway. Hello! It’s been a few months since my last post. I ran out of time for my NaNoWriMo posts, as well as what to actually say in them. But, I’m here to give an update about my life currently.

1. I’m no longer unemployed.

*throws confetti* I can afford ALL the things now! It was one of those moments where you get hired on the spot, too. Without any previous experience, even. I walked in and was told that they really needed this position filled, so I took it. That was back in the last week of November. I won’t say where, but I work as the restaurant’s daytime hostess for a couple of hours. They really needed me. The people there are great, and while it’s not really my cup of tea (I’d prefer working in a bookstore), it’s interesting to see how things go on. I’m still getting used to the awkward numbering of the tables in the cocktail area. And I have to say, I prefer daytime hosting to nighttime. That’s a whole other ordeal I don’t want to tango with.

2. I didn’t touch a book last year.

I may have started something in January (2016), but for the most part, I did not pick up a single book. I don’t think you can call this a slump. I think it’s more of a brick wall that I’ve been trying to climb over. I should probably just get something to blow a hole in it. There actually may be an underlying reason for this “slump”, but I don’t wish to touch upon that just yet. I’ll attempt to finish Six of Crows and/or In the Afterlight sometime this month before I start anything new.

3. I’ve put one project on hold to start another one.

I know it might seem blasphemous to do so, but I really needed a break from the other one. I started it years ago, and while the first version doesn’t hold a candle to what it is now, I need a breather. Since then, I’ve ventured into an over-saturated genre that may or may not sell. I’ll talk more about this new project in a separate post! (Or, rather, what I can talk about it. Leave a comment to let me know what you want to know about this story.)

4. I’ve been watching ALL THE ANIME!!

I don’t recall when (I think it was late 2015), but I started watching anime again. I was really into it in high school, but after I graduated, I wanted nothing to do with it. I believed that it was something that should stay in the dark pit that was four years of hell. But then I said, “I need something to watch.” So I went and found Bleach online, and binge-watched the entire series mostly in about two weeks. And now the manga has ended and I’m still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too behind that. I don’t think I even read any of it, to be honest. In other words, it reignited my interest in anime, so I got a Funimation account (the group who licensed the English dub for Fullmetal Alchemist and Attack on Titan) and started watching anime there. I have a hard time with subtitles, and I would really like to rectify that. More recently, I started a Crunchyroll trial so I can watch stuff that’s not on Funimation there (Bungou Stray Dogs, anyone?).

5. Gaming on Platforms & PC

Lately, I’ve been really into video games. I played a few growing up (Mario Party on the 64, Luigi’s Mansion on the GameCube…), but I was never really into them like my dad or brother. Nowadays, I can afford games on my own. I think I’ve purchased more PC games than console games, considering I can count as least ten game icons? (Yeesh.) BUT THAT’S NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT CAME OUT 11 DAYS AGO. In 2015, Bioware announced a fourth Mass Effect game. November last year, they released the first official trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda. I pre-ordered it in December. It’s just so beautiful….

Well, that’s all from me for today. I hope everything is going well for the rest of you!

  1. Congrats on getting a job, lovely! Even though it’s not exactly what you wanted, I’m glad that you’re not hating it *cheers*

As for your reading slump, have you tried reading some manga? There’s not as much of a time commitment, and you also get to look at some pretty beautiful art at the same time. When I don’t know what to read I find myself usually picking up a manga volume (or several).

I think it’s okay to shelve a WIP for a while, especially if you need a breather. And starting a new project can be exciting!

I’ve also recently gotten back into anime, but only the cutesy ones, haha XD

So many people I know love gaming and I just don’t touch it at all. I would probably get sucked in and never leave, and I don’t need another thing tugging at my attention, haha. I’m glad you’re enjoying it again, though!

    1. Honestly, it’s the people that make working there bearable. I love these people.

I’ll admit, I haven’t really touched manga in a while, though recently I did purchase three manga books (two I’ve watched the anime for and one I don’t really know much about). I want to read Bleach, but there’s so many volumes.

I’m already in love with this project, although the genre is heavily saturated and my own story may not sell. We’ll see when I get to the finished stage.

(Cutesy ones are a nice break from the heavy fantasy/sci-fi ones, but I prefer the latter kind.)

I think the news of Mass Effect: Andromeda is what *really* got me into gaming in the first place. I played the original trilogy in about 6 or 7 weeks. Maybe more than that.
